I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to switch the dead key output power by means of a control that would allow you to switch back and forth between the stock output of 4 watts and say 2 watts?

What I would like to have is a switch on the radio that allows the stock dead key output of 4 watts, but if I need to switch in an amp to cut the dead key power down to 2 watts on a Galaxy DX 979.

Is this possible??

Thanks,

JJ

OK I just noticed that the DX-979 has a variable power control up front. Would I be able to control the dead key power output from this to use with an amp?

Please excuses my illiteracy on this radio as its supposed to be a Christmases present and Im not supposed to know about it yet :-)

you could remove the pot that varies the output & replace it with 2 resistors on a switch OR just replace the pot with a pot on the front panel-use maybe the squelch control, or remove an unused switch & replace with a pot, or put a pot through the case, or side....

Mmmm? Sounds like a group of pot heads to me.
What i do is mount resistor pot same size as the
variable power control up front then use a switch
like the nb switch then you can set the dead key
and just hit the switch. Think about this have you seen the dual pots get one of them and you'll
have just the thing and use that nb to switch.
