Locate MB8719 chip. Wire a SPST switch from pin 10 to ground. Wire a second SPST switch from pin 11 to pin 12.

I sure wish that got me to 27.435 or 26.735 The only ones I know that get's me to those freq's is the 3 switch mod or "the_mod" that Kid_Vicious did to his Cobra 2000. |

the 3 switch mod will get you 27.435, but not 26.735, it only goes down to 26.815. |

So, other than "the_mod" (which I don't see doing unless they start selling a kit), what will get me to 26.735 on an MB8719 PLL? I realize this is straying a bit from the thread...but I'm not sure why this thread was posted in the first place, lol. |

i think it has something to do with all the 21 year old girls at hotwires place ....anyway, nothing. the only way to get 26.735 is with an expo 'C' kit...if you can find one anymore. |

i think you can get that freq. if you change the 11.3258 crystal to the 11.1125 crystal (the one from the washington and the 142) you will lose some high freqs though. matt |

I was under the understanding that the 2000s, 148s and Grants used the Expo L kit. Although I do have a few radios that can be moded to obtain 26.735 MHz., such as the older UPd-858 PLL sideband rigs, without changing or adding crystals and they are every bit as good as the newer sideband rigs, just ask some of the people who have the UPd-858 PLL sideband rigs. |

This mod is all over the web. I guess its only for the 148 GTL. I tried it on my 148 nwst and something is just not right. Actually it just downright won't work! Same pll as the GTL. Anyone done a channel mod to the 148 NWST model Cobra? Im4jc I have seen the 3 switch mod somewhere too which reqiures resistor value changes. Hmmm I have a brand new pack of asort resistors. I really hate to start hacking on a radio but its old and I have retired it from being my daily mobile. So instead of it just collecting dust I may as well make it my test subject. ITS ALIVE ITS ALIVE ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!For now anyway... |

does your NWST have a MMB8719 (NOT an MB8719) or an MB8734??? some were NOT modifiable without a changeover to an MB8719. if it already is the good chip, then you may have made a mistake somewhere.... |

Pat, Just looked and it is MMB8719 with 9834 below it. I did it right I'm sure. The switch you ground I ran to a chassis bolt that goes through a board trace. Guess I have the wrong PLL. Mmmmm maybe the 148 GTL in the mobile the right one. Its brand new so I may wait and just save for the S-9 I been dreaming about! |

check around the auctions, for chips, for deceased older 148's/XL's, even ranger/rci repair centers & any CB dealers with loads of mod parts. if you swap out the MMB chip for either a MB8719 or RCI8719, you'll have all the mods available. double check the ground, some of those radios chassis' may be isolated from DC ground for the extremely rare positive ground automobile. go right to the negative off the power input, inside the radio to be sure. |
