i have 2 icom f21gm Hts that do 4 watts & for the base i use a kenwood TM-G707A & done the mods. to it & put up on my tower a dual band 2 &440 att. works like a charm i go 6 to 7 miles away to my fishing hole & have no trouble staying in touch with the family

Too bad FRS does not allow external antennas it would be intresting to see how well they would work
I found MURS ( 151.820 mhz ) will go 7 - 10 miles from a good base to a moble with stock ( leagal ) 2 watt radios
using ....
Base antenna ringo ranger at 40 foot
moble ant hustler 5 db gain
radios radio shack 2 watt 2 ch
