normal recieve is around 1 amp.
normal transmit is around 3 amps.
1 amp equals 1,000 milliamps.
so, 3,000 milliamps should be OK.
4,000 or 5,000 would be better.

thanks!i tested some new AA battries and added them up and got 750 milli amps.thats not much but the radio does run off that many, just not that strong.about 5 watt output but i guess thats good to be running off battries.just didnt want to damage the radio.

try using D cell batteries, and see what kind of current you get, im not sure its much more but i think it is.

those batteries wont last long like that, keep an eye out for corrosion too.
good luck,
matt

no they dont last long at all!i was wanting to use an ac/dc adapter instead of battries for my neighbor to use to talk to me without getting a big base ant and radio.this one has the ant on top of the radio.a 12v 1amp adapter seems to work pretty good.i get 8 watts out of it!
thanks matt!
