not sure what all the fuss is about i have a kenwood dual band 2 & 440 mobile that does 50watts i use it as a base i have a dual band base att. that broad bands very well I also have 4 watt icom ht,s that do GMRS & FRS They are reapeter ready so i can hit a reapeter all the pl tones & talk 5 miles plus with no trouble the hts are for sale if anyones interested but all i had to do is mod the kenwood so that i could get FRS & Gmrs & also MURS witch is also a free band so there is plenty of ways to skin a cat if you want to

The trouble is that those radios are not FCC certified for MURS, FRS, or GMRS. Some of us like to operate within the rules because we have a lot to lose if we don't.

I've done the wideband modification on all of my amateur radios in case I ever need to use them out of band in an emergency. I've never had cause to transmit out of band yet, and I hope I never do.

i dont recall saying that i transmitted on the kenwood i done just like you did i done the mods just in case of an emergency & i use my icom ic-f21gm hts that are FCC type app.& accepted that is what they are approved for i can use the repeters in my area all you have to do is ask permission & app.for the lic. i would not say that anyone should do anything that was not fcc approved thank you very much
