Is there a freq. modification for this radio? The original mb-8719 chip modification we are having no luck with. How do we modify the rci8719 version?

Thanks

the mb8719 & rci8719 mod the same. the mmb8719 doesn't mod for freqs. the mb8734 needs to be changed for any mods. i have seen 148f gtl with 8734, which was in some of the NWST radios & needed to be changed to mb/rci8719 1st.

what did you try & what were the results?

Very weird. yes it worked just like the old mb8719. we compaired 2 148 gtl-f radios they both had the RCI 8719 but the one we were trying to mod had the pin 1/18 mark on the wrong side of the chip????? I have never seen this before. I even compaired it to several others I have in stock and the mark was placed on the wrong side.

did you do the mod using the mark, or where pin 1 SHOULD be?
i'd check for known voltages, based on where pin 1 SHOULD be & do it that way, not just going by the mark.

So Patzerozero and AF your both saying the RCI and MB both modify the same? Is the MB the only one that will NOT modify for channels?

Canon, They are saying it's the MMB-8719 PLL that's not mod friendly. But somewhere here on the forum there was posts about the MMB-8719 PLL being modified. It's the MB-8734 PLL that doesn't mod. The Cobra 2000-GTL and a few other radios comes stock with the MB-8734 PLL and must be changed to the MB-8719 PLL to do the mods.

So the RCI PLL mods the same...cool. I think the MMB8719 will not mod also from what I am reading.

the MMB doesn't do the FULL mod...& some MMB's will not mod at all do to programming of the chip in the factory. not sure if there is any distinguishing mark on those, though. stick with the rci or mb version & you'll be good. they can also be swapped into MMB & 8734 version radios!
