Will the Boomer 500 with the built in power supply (35A) be able to handle the input from the 2995DX?
If not, what would need to be done to the Boomer for it to accept that drive level?
The Boomer I have has had the 2879 transistors installed instead of the 1446's that were factory. I have seen arguement for and against that swap and claims that the 1446's were stronger. I personally see an increase with nothing else being changed but the transistors. |

first off the 2sc2879 is an industrail mtl spec part and the 1446 is not, also the 1446 will make 100watts and the 2sc2879 will make 250watts.
second the 2995 already has a 2 pill amp inside it with 2sc2290 pills that creat 120watts each you will need a true high drive amp to run behind it or you can turn off the internal amp for driving a low drive amp. simply unhook the black/brown wires next to the fiber mirror board. |

the 2995 makes a 'real' 160 watts PEP. the stock power supply & regulators don't agree with much more output, unless you re-do them. like 'frog says, put a switch on the amp in the 2995, or back down dead key to 8 watts or less, & mic for 40 watts or less PEP. assuming the 2879-modded boomer is 'right', you should have no problems either way.
at 12-14 volts, the 2879 is gonna make about 120 watts. it's gonna take a lot more volts & design to get quality 250 watts out of one. |

My 2995DX has nothing done to it, no diode mod this and that. It still has the factory warranty sticker on it.
You can turn down the RF and the swing decreases along with it, no clip job radio here.
I don't have plans of clipping or doing anything to it. Now the Boomer...it's a total wreck...I guess you could call it "FrankenAmp". I've changed almost everything inside it, and it's up to 16 volts now and been run that way for a year or better.
Sadly both units are sitting together like "red-headed step kids" in the corner of my shop. Boo-hoo. |
