Anybody have any modifications for these types of radios? Anything like frequency changes or expansion and power increases?

It doesn't matter for which one, if you've got something worth doing, I'll buy the brand/model just to do the mod.

Thanks!

More voltage? A beam antenna?

Well, I'm sure more voltage and a beam would surely help one out. I'll make sure I look into that.

What I'd really like to know is can they be modified to more frequencies? Not necessarily for transmit purposes, but I would really like to make them receive more.

Sure I could go out and buy an HT that'll receive what I'm looking for, but that defeats the purpose. I am looking for a project, something to do to get out of the house...where it's peaceful and quite...

my 14 year old has been somewhat fascinated with radios since he was about 3. that was about when he got his 1st walkie talkies. by 5 or 6, he got this toys 'r' us set with 2 WT's & a little base station. eventually the little rubber duckie broke off the base unit, so i hooked up a long piece of wire to it. obviously the longer the wire, the more static it would hear. touching the center conductor of the roof mounted maco v5/8 would allow the HT's to hear the base unit 1/4 mile up the road, though you couldn't hear the HT's. certain things attatched to the antenna wire of the base allowed you to 'hear' something. never figured out who or what it was. not even sure what freq it was on-maybe 49 mHz & it was old cordless phone or baby monitors? check out ramsey or somebody like that & see if there's any amplifier kits that do 500 mW or 1 watt & build a little beam . we did the same with a ramsey AM broadcast band xmtr & increased its range from 150 feet to over 1/2 mile-to a car with an 'in the windshield' antenna. debated on adding more watts & more antenna for our own 'baby-pirate-radio' station, just never got around to it. he is more interested in putting out stereo-pirate-rap on an FM xmtr, then distance on 540-1600 kHz. SHHHH. don't tell anybody i said that

About the only modification I ever heard for an FRS radio was for the Cherokee models with a detachable antenna, and that was to use another antenna.

With the dual use FRS/GMRS radios out there, that's pretty much commonplace now.

Well this stinks. I was hoping to be able to modify the channels in it to change the receive. Actually hoping to change the entire frequencies in it.

But I guess that's not going to be possible huh?

Hmmm...now what? I'll have to crack the things open and see what's inside. For sure there is some evil that can be done inside these GI Joe Jr's...
