I have a Cobra 29 NW WX ST. What Mods do I use to run my 100 watt linear with it? Are there any audio mods I can do?

Thanks,

You are probably better off leaving the radio stock if hooking to an amp. You can turn VR4 wide open or cut D11 to boost modulation for when you may not be running the amp.

Can I turn VR4 open and still run my box?How much wattage can I get out of the radio?Would I just be better of running it with my box?

If all is done right you can get 30 watt swing without putting the radio in too much danger. If you are wanting to talk long distance you will need the amp, I would take it to a shop and have the 2 matched to be on the safe side. No use in taking a blind chance and blow both up.

the way to tune an amp without a meter.
well my version anyway

1. open the cover on the radio. locate the vr pot for am output and turn it all the way down to nothing.

2. key up the radio and then turn the vr pot just enough to key the amp and then turn it just a little more.

3. basicly thats all. just crank the modulation wide open on the vr pot and go from there. Then your running a low deadkey in it and your swinging into it. it will last forever like that and it will definatly sound alot better than driving it with a big deadkey. and you will also be ALOT LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taz,

73's and i am out and off the key and what not.

Hey Taz, thats a great poor-boy way to tune a radio to an amplifer, and to make the amp sound good, and do it's thing. I've never done it, always had a meter, but I gar-on-tee, that'll work!! Fou-Ten!

yeah,

that has saved me a couple of hundred dollars there on some amps and its a good method.
i have always had a meter too and have always payed close attention to wattage output but that is the best method if you arent using a meter or you dont have one

Taz, im off the key

one at a time, some might be a spring to spread apart, but dont worry about the springs, only one of those you turn back by the heat sink in front of the 2078 final it is a brown thing that stands up about 1/2 a inch it has wax on top remove the wax and then procead to adjust it dont worry about the others that is the main one you will also see a peace of rubber band sticking outleave it in, it keeps the slug tight, your welcome
