a freind has a eagle 500 amp and has bad tubes in it. is it worth getting the tubes or is he better off spending the money on a newer amp.Any info on these amps would be good it takes a 20LF6 tube and has 7 of them so is it worth it.

i have one of those amps. i dont use it because of the price of the tubes. one day i will sell it or convert it to different tubes, but for now, it sits.

the cheapest price you are going to find for these tubes is about 40-50 dollars a piece.
with 7 of them, you are up to 350 dollars for a thirty year old amp that was not that well designed in the first place.

my advice would be to take the 350 and buy a KLV550 or something comparable.
you can get a good transistor amp and a power supply for that money.
oh, and i tried the 26LX6 that is listed as a sub.
i did not have good luck with them. they all blew.
good luck,
matt

Sad that the tubes cost more than the entire amp ..... Old amps using sweep tubes can be a nightmare.

Thats why I went solid state on all bands but will be adding a 4-811 tube amp this comming year. Back years ago all my amps were TUBE .... but they got so expensive to replace.

My Mirage 2 meter amp bit the dust and will need to go back I realy don't know why or what happened and it's a QULGE inside ....

Some remember my 1979 caddy with a 95 inch wip and the home built amp THAT 10 meter fm amp runs 4 transistors simular to the boomer 400 ..... I get 325 watts FM on .....29.600 MORE than enough to work the world which I did back about 8 years ago.
On 6 since 66
