I have a connex 250 that has blown 455 trans. in it!! Can I change these to say 2879 trans. Say as easy as just put them in?? If not if I go back with 455 how much do I set up to dead key!! Also have a comet 200 two 1446 what should the dead key be on it on high? |

You can put any transistor in there you want to as long as the tabs are of the same configuration. As in 'base' being the same on both and 'collector' and 'emitter' being the same on all legs of both. Otherwise a big POOF will most likely happen. It looks cool, but you wouldn't be happy with it. Many will argue that you can't do this cause the drive won't be right and bla bla bla. However not saying these guys are wrong, but I did the same where I replaced 1446's with 2879's. With nothing else being done I picked up power and a noticable amount at that. Now going deeper and changing the other related pieces will net more power and better results. The circuit in that amp was designed for those transistors and will most likely perform the best with direct replacement parts. Not to say though that it won't work as well or slightly better by swapping in another type transistor. The best way to find out is put them in and see, then research what the requirements are for the transistors you put in and make adjustments to get the desired results. Now doing all that, you'd be better off getting something bigger to start with unless you just like all that work and effort. Which is what this hobby is about in the first and I've preached that many times here. Yes, it can be done. What will your results be? We don't know it's hard to say. Is it going to be worth it? Again, hard to say...to some NO and to others YES. Which one you fall under depends on you. Chop |

CHOP THANKS OR THE INPUT. I THINK THIS WILL BE A GOOD WINTER PROJECT. I AM DRIVING THIS WITH A DUEL FINAL RADIO AND I AM SURE THE 2879 WILL TAKE THE EXTRA POWER BETTER. |

bronzepony, when you replace the finals with 2879's; if you have a high SWR going IN to the amp, try removing one turn at a time from the input transformer. the output transformer may have to be changed to a 1.25" also. good luck, matt |

60 dead key, 250 PEP from the dx350. 2x1446 probably 50 dead key 200 PEP or a bit less. |
