How many shorting blocks does the Magnum S9 come with for frequency expansion when shipped new?
Instructions for frequency expansion show shorting blocks on JP1 and Jp4 after expansion and only one on JP1 when shipped new in the 10 meter mode.
Where does the other shorting block come from?

If the shorting blocks are the same size you could scavenge some shorting blocks from an old computer mother board which I do for use in certain radios.

Could also steal the one that gives you the 6 digit Freq counter in AM mode. Place it where needed for your conversion?
Sorry.... the one I had was used and previously converted.

I just got my magnum S-680 today Out of the box it did 20 watts swingin to 55. Channels are 25.615-29.205 out of the box. Didnt have to do any mods to it. I took off jumper 4 to get the 6 digit freq counter. If your swr's are way off the red light on the meter blinks, and you get no power reading I thought it was broke already. I set the tuner properly swr's got back to normal and it keyed right up again . High dead key is 40 thats all i got- swings to 75 with a whistle and about 65 with a ahhhhh Echo works great Theres no pots for the final or driver bias. It came with schematics . 2 -1969 finals were printed on the sheet, but inside were the ERF 2030'S 4 of them.

hey i bought a brand new magnum S9 last week.. the only problem i have is that the talkback wont turn off even when i have the echo switch off. normally on galaxy radios you turn echo on and you will get echo if you turn echo off talkback goes off. can anyone tell me how can i completly kill the talkback on this radio. wich mod needs to be done if there is any? reason why i want to kill talkback is because it feedback trough the speaker because i have a power mic. and its really anoying. i dont seee why should i have to use a stock mic if i have a nice D-104.. anyone please help thanks...

From your S9 Owners Manual:

AMT: All Mode Talk Back. AMT, a Magnum exclusive, is an independent talk back monitor. The AMT functionsin all modes and allows the operator to monitor the trans-mitted audio of the Magnum S-9. To increase the volume of the talk back rotate the control clockwise. To decrease rotate counterclockwise. To turn off the talkback rotate the control completely counterclockwise

I would highly suggest NOT doing any modification's that could VOID your factory warranty.

You can also call Sam Lewis (Owner of Magnum International) direct and he may have a solution to solve your problem.

hi there Tech808 thats the thing i turnd the AMT all the way to the left like when you turn a volume down and i still get feeedback or squeel trough the speaker.. i could see if i was to use a stock mic then maybe i wont have that problem. but the issue happens when i hook up my powermic it feedbacks trough the speaker.. even though i have the mic volume on the D104 almost on cero... like i mentioned earlier. on the galaxy radios once you turn the echo off talkback is off. thats how they should off built this radio because not everybody likes talkbacks anyways. i hope you understand

latinlover515.
that is why they put the talkback and echo on two seperate pods that way you can still run your echo with no talk back.
if it was built like a galaxy then when you turn off your echo so you dont have talkback then you dont have echo either.
And as far as your problem try turning off the TOP GUN because what is happening is your over loading the modulation into the radio and all the excess rf has to go somewhere.
If you are runing a d104 with the radio then dont run the top gun. because you will more than likly have to turn back the mic gain and then youll be back to almost stock mic level.
just my two cents
