I changed the voltage regulators to 2sb817 and 2sa1012 and it still has a slight SSB transmit warble!

is the modulation limiter clipped?

in that chassis there is one that is for AM only, and one that is for both AM and SSB, if you cut the one for both, it can cause a warbly sound on SSB.

wish i could remember the part numbers right now, but its been too long. if i find them, i will post them here.

found some info:

if your 2SB817 is TR51,
and the 2SA1012 is TR53,
then TR32 is the transistor that you want to make sure is intact.
should be in the front right part of the board.

if its gone, replace it with a 2SC945, and just use VR14 for modulation control.

also, make sure you are not using the el cheapo radio shack replacement cord. the wire ga. is too small and can cause a warble on SSB.

need to use a cord with 16ga. or bigger wire.
good luck,
matt

just put tr32 back in my 2000gtl recently, good call, r131 is the one you wanna clip.
I used the ends off a computer powersuppy cord to power my gladiator, the harddrive power connectors have nice wire in them just gotta bend the little tabs in the molex connector and pull them out.
73's guys!
