see what transistors are in it. 454's & 2290's which were in the older ones used 2sc2290's, the newer ones used sd1446's. not sure if they've changed that. that said, the 1st 2 are 80 watters, the 1446 is either 70 or 90 (rfparts says in CB form, they are 70 watters), so, turn the mic gain to 'off', turn the radio wattage down, key up & adjust radio wattage til amp is dead keying 40-50 watts. fully modulated you should see 150+ PEP. the 'ideal number' is whatever it takes to key 40-50, somewhere between 2 & 5 watts. |

my boomer 250 has 2 sd1446's. hooked up to a cobra 29 chrome edition with the heavy finals. the draw back is i have to run mic gain at about 11 o'clock other wise get alot of distortion. so i figure my dead key is to high with mic gain maxed out. |

what type of mic ya using amplyifed non amplyied if non amplifed this has me thinking maybe your limiter is cut or removed or the vr is set a little too high.what is your dead key?sometimes too low of a dead key will do this also dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64
