I found a mod for the Cobra 25 and it goes like this , Remove jumper JP6 and install a 220uf 16 to 25 vdc cap in its place , also add a 100 ohm resistor across the cap . Now I know that this mod is suppose to increase your TX audio , but how is this accomplished with this mod? What is taking place electrically?

It's called superswing mod-it lowers your dead key so that your meter and other cber's meters move around more. It allows you to utilize the wasted power from the higher carrier to use for mod.

Can you just remove jumper JP6 and install a 100 ohm resistor without using a 220uf cap to lower your dead key? I would like to lower my key without lowering my full wattage. Thanks...

I don't believe you can. I know the resistor is what effects the dead key. Most time when you lower the dead key you'll lower the modulation also and this mod will allow you to still have the same(or close to it) peak modulation but with a lower dead key and giving you that big loud audio.I wouldn't advise this mod if your not running an amp or you don't talk long distances.
