I bought this radio a couple of years ago and the radio is still going strong, Although...
The cover over the blue display (this is the cover with the Magnum 257 name on it) has come off.
It's like it's only glued on, maybe the Florida heat has coused this?
I have tryed replacing it by pushing it back in place but it doesn't stay.
I'm afraid to use anything like super glue, that may run and get in between cover and display and really mess things up.
Is there a way to fix this or is a new cover do for this radio now?
And can I get a new cover from Magnum?
Also has this happen to any other Magnum 257 owners and if so how did you go about fixing it?
Thanks

yes it did to my BLUE 257, george. and it was in the COLD where i found it one day on the floor beneath the radio. i tried crazy glue & found....it doesn't stick to the radio, just hardens on the plastic lens. i also find that when you turn it on, everything works but the display-xmit, rcv, all functions work, just no display. if you turn it off & on real fast, the display eventually returns....so far. i also modded mine for 10m AND expanded mode so it would have repeater function, not that i use it, but....if you DO shift freq for repeater, it will NOT return to normal unless you turn the radio off & on again & cycle through the 10m & expanded modes via the func & call controls. also had to put some wax on the internal rf power pots as both AM power & ALC turned counterclockwise on their own....or via external spirit forces(not jack daniels either)...and i began to notice decreased power output. my remedy has been to replace my 257 with my mk2g, but i haven't come up with a safe spot to permanantly mount the radio yet, detachable face is OK, radio gets hot even with fans when under the seat....but the display works

Pat Thanks, I'm not having all the other problems with the radio (Knock on Wood) just the plastic lens fell off on the floor beneath the radio.
crazy glue/supper glue I know what happens when you put it to plastic, just hardens and makes a bigger mess.
I'm waiting for Sam Lewis reply now.

When mine came loose, I used silicone seal and applied a small amount to all four corners and in the middle of top and bottom. It does not take but a little dab to hold it. I hope this helps you George.

.....the 257 is the only magnum i have left when I get rid of it THEY'LL have to deal with THOSE headaches. i've given up on 'em. every question is answered....send it here....send it there...i have been able to fix most problems WITHOUT sending it anywhere, but there is no answer to the question, just 'send it...'. even reimbursed shipping charges don't make up for my time which is more valuable then that. YUP. no more magnums here......

I have has my 257 for 5 yrs and the only problem I have had, I caused it and I called Sam Lewis and he had me send it to California and it never cost me anything. Also, the radio was out of warranty. I would not buy any radio but a Magnum.

My question is there a simple adjustment inside the magnum 257 radio like a rf gain? My radio has almost no noise level in receive as if the rf gain is down. Weak signals are almost not heard that I can hear when I use a different radio( uniden 122xl or grant xl)? Maybe that is just the way it is but this is my third magnum 257 and I don't remember them this way. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim
