Hello, An SSB radio is in the works as I type. It will have many improved features for serious SSB operators. Building a radio does take some time though and our number one concern is getting it right the first time out and now leaving a bunch of customers hanging with radios that don't perform quite right or need repairs to be functional. We don't feel it's right to let the end user "work out the bugs" Thank you |

Hello everyone. Well, just wanted to post my comments about the Stryker 440HP radio after having it peeked and tuned. The radio now outputs a solid 65watts and the audio is crisp and very loud! The swing on the modulation is awesome. The receiver also after been tuned is even more sensitive then before the mod. The antenna I am using is the Hustler rm-11 with the fiberglass mast. The mic is an Astatic D104M6B model. If you're looking for a senstive recv with an awesome backlighted front panel with plenty of audio and output; maybe take a look at the Styker. I was concerned about buying a radio new off the market, but I have zero regrets now. Thanks for reading! |

just got to see a NEW stryker....WHERE'S THE SSB VERSION??? i could nit-pick this 1 to death, too, but except for lack of SSB, i see promise! it was installed in an 18 wheel dump truck, with a magnaforce 600. the bleedover from the other trucks in the yard was almost 'respectable'-it was there, but not all that bad. pointed the same way as my truck, it could copy distant signals every bit as well as my radio. receive quality of audio was real nice too. no meter in line, but he claims 60 watts out of it, & 1000 from the MF. the difference between it & his radio i think) is night & day! xmit, rcv & what it does with the amp! this is from a galaxy man all the way, & 20 year trucker. he said he got nothing but glowing 'radio checks', & i heard it from about 6-7 miles away, with & without the amp. has a dm452 on it & sounds real good. he's had it since middle of last week, got it in PA, peaked & tweaked NIB for YIKES-the $*** list price & his radio.... his only dislike is the blue lights, he needs to put a t-shirt over the radio at night, they are too bright & distracting. the 1st thing i checked was the channel selector. it did have the same 'feel' as my radio, when you turn it, it can go a little farther then you want it to, but it doesn't have a 'looseness/wobble' feeling that the other radio has-if that's how you wish to describe it. the rest of the controls have the same feel as well, not 'beefy' like my radio, but, i've never had any problem with the radio so...i'd rather see the mic on the side, those silly beeps gone, a freq counter, SSB, etc. as for 60 watts, another 'tweener' radio. fortunately, his amp will handle the swing. all in all, it looks & sounds good! I was afraid of the blue lights. Man, just like, ahem, another radio we all know and love (I did this so my post wouldn't be asterisk ridden), the dim setting isn't NEARLY dim enough. ATTN: Stryker team. How about a "Mega Dim" setting? Pleasy weasy? Pretty please with sugar on top? |

Not familiar with these radios but like to hear that a marginal radio will not be released or one that ends up needing a re-design. VERY glad to hear you have the belief that your customers should not be left having to work out the bugs, especially at their own cost. KUDOS

I too just bought a Styker 440HP and had it peeked and tuned and all I can say is that it is an excellent piece of radio gear! The backlite display is very nice, modulation is LOUD and recv is finally what an AM radio should sound like! All controls, etc are solid feel. I get virtually no adjacent channel splatter when the rf gain control is used. Thanks Shawn for taking my questions over the phone, and emailing me as well! Customer support is excellent also! |

Interesting radio, Hey Shawn! We all know alot of radios nowadays are being built with cheap parts. For instance my newer Cobra 148 GTL has had its reciever pretty much rebuilt. My tech said in his own words," I remove inferior parts and replace them with superior parts." After this my radio has none of the hash and noise it used to have. Now I know in order for the radio to make it on the market it has to be competitive with the price of other radios. My question is,... Is this radio built with the highest qaulity componets available? No shortcuts or cut corners or compromises for the sake of affordabilty to the consumer? None of us want to buy a radio only to take it to someone for alignnments and mods ,etc, etc. A lot of us here at Copper know a good radio when we see one and if the price is well worth it! Personally I don't care how much the radio costs as long as I know I'm getting the best or at least every penny worth. Best of luck on the SSB model Shawn and thanks for giving a darn about the consumer! This is the way it should always be! Kenny Davidson Franklin,Indiana CEF491 Hotwire |

I don't have an opinion as to whether Stryker uses inferior parts in their radio but I do find it interesting that Stryker choose to use a Motorola M-1104 final power transistor which according to numerous electronic parts suppliers is both obsolete and no longer being manufactured by Motorola. However, there is some limited stock available at what I consider a very high price. |

In regards to the SSB version we're finishing up on the new features, I will post when we have them decided on. Midwess: I'm glad you are happy with your radio. Blue lights, We're working on a mod to cut the lights back even further. Most shops are seeing about 65 watts PEP with the radios and the audio reports have been great. We have plenty of M1104 Transistors available if they are needed. They are very durable and run very cool, one radio owner decided to test this and keyed his radio for 30 mins with no antenna. He took out a voltage regulator, but the final was jut fine. We don't recommend trying this however, he went to the extreme! Thanks again guys! |

Posted by Waterboy on Saturday, February 04, 2006 - 8:20 am: It looks like there is bad blood with Stryker and Copper??? Waterboy, There is no bad blood on this end but it does concern me that we haven't been able to get pricing from Stryker. I'm beginning to wonder if they just don't want us carrying them. |

What does the AWI Flash look like when it goes off? I hopefully will never see it , but was just curious as to what color they use to warn the operator. I have been using my Stryker & I LOVE the receiver for this radio. In my opinion the receive FAR SURPASSES my Connex & Galaxy units. |

The AWI will flash the red meter light on and off continuously while transmitting with a dangerously high SWR. It's very easy to spot. I'm very glad that your happy with your Stryker and if you have any other questions please let me know! Thank you |
