Nice write up! I went "pawn shopping" and tried out a few mic.s there and found one that had a sound that I wanted,Did my technical test of shaking it while it was pluged in and listened for rattles:), Made a PTT switch using a old computer mouse(gutted),the cable for the mouse(with wires doubled up)and added a push button switch in one of the mouse buttons.I then drilled some holes in a 2X4 for a mold and melted some automotive wheel weights down and poured the melted lead in the holes in the 2X4 and made some "slugs", glued the lead slugs inside the mouse for some added weight and Bingo! Works GREAT. I got a Shure SM-58 "stage" mic,15'mic cable(I shortened) and a adjustable desk top mic stand at the pawn shop for $35.00, add another $1.99 for the switch and $1.19 for a rca plug. Less than $40.00 Total investment and it's the BEST base mic. I've ever had!!:)

I made one also...GREAT! Rat Shack had a 1/2 price sale on the PC mic and the project box was free! I added an echo board to the project box (I couldn't let the 9v compartment sit useless). Made sure to add an extra switch for the battery as the board can drain the battery. LOUD!!!
