Review

The KLV-1000 was tested with a Texas Ranger 696F SSB Base Radio. The output was 8-watt peak.

The 1st Sargant (Shirley) was kind enough to allow me to use her radio for this Review.

I received this Amp as a Christmas present from the 1st Sargant.

I have given it a rather long test and it has Performed Flawlessly in every aspect.

Although the Owners Manual list's Input Power at 4 watts,

I started with 3-1/2 watts and reports were that it sounded Pinched Up and Slightly Distorted. I also received the same reports with 3 watts with both the 1st Sargant and I testing it.

I enlisted (asked) for Shirley's (1st Sargant's) help on testing this Amp as my voice is rather deep and hers is much higher pitched. And with both of us performing the test's, we were able to get a much broader response than just me testing it.

When I backed the drive down to 2-1/2 watts we both received Excellent reports on Clarity and Loudness with No Distortation.

All of the test's below were performed with a 2-1/2 Watt Input.

Output Levels Using Low, Hi & Hi –1 & Hi & Hi-2
Position Input Dead Key PEP
Low 2.5 Watts 150 Watts 400 Watts
Hi & Hi-1 2.5 Watts 350 Watts 700 Watts
Hi & Hi-2 2.5 Watts 450 Watts 900 Watts

The Built in Watt meter as well as the Built in SWR meter was very accurate compared to different SWR /WATT meters that I tested inline with this AMP.

The Pre-Amp works very well on this AMP and allows you to tune it to eliminate all of the extra noise you do not need after making a contact.

It has One Large Cooling Fan that I have found to do an Excellent job at keeping this unit cool.

I followed the factory instructions of Not broadcasting for more than 5 minutes at a time, and allowing reasonable time to cool the tubes.

I found that it continued to stay cool and was Impossible to make it overheat by following the Factory Instructions of Operation.

I have had the pleasure on owning and using several of the KLV Amps and this one is another Excellent Product that KLV has come out with.

The directions are very easy to understand, and the AMP itself is also very easy to operate for a beginner as well as the more experienced operator’s out there.

Copper Electronics has again added another Very Fine Product from KLV / RM Italy, to their great line of products that they offer for the Radio Enthusiasts.

Respectfully Submitted,
