Should the ground strap (lead) be flat ribbon or can we use heavy 8 or 10 gauge wire? I have a single 8 gauge wire going from the plate to the 8ft ground.

It suddenly dawned on me that I only have one of these on the main antenna line tied into a grounding plate outside the house. I really need a polyphaser for each and every line, right? I'm probably wasting my money by not completing the job?

Also, do they make something for single wire like my Shortwave antenna?

Ca346,

As the Review says Use a Minimum of 10 Gauge Wire or Copper Strap is the best.

Your 8 gauge should work ok.

As for your Shortwave antenna I would post a note to Tech833 in the Ask the Tech Antenna Section, as he would probaly have the answer for SW Antenna as I have never used one.

Or he will probably read this post and answer your question.

Hope this helps

Copper strap or copper wire make little difference to lightning, however, strap does make a better RF ground lead. #8 is the smallest you should ever use.

Yes, you need a Polyphaser for each line.

You can use a Polyphaser for single wire antennas as long as you don't run gobs of power. I use them for my SW longwires and the loss is undetectable.

Also...

User copper joint compound (it's like copper Never-Seize made by PolyPhaser) or similar to prevent corrosion and to maintain continutity between connections.

Remember to use "like metals" when grounding anything. For example, if you're using copper wire, use copper lugs as well.

Everything gets it's own ground and everything get's grounded to the same place to maintain the same ground potential.

Does COPPER carry the joint compound?

Forum Master Note :
We have contacted the company that makes Penetrox and hopefully will have some in the very near future.

Will copper be carrying Polyphaser units for the 70CM band and above to 1.2 GHz? I could use one for my dual band vhf/uhf antenna and GMRS.

Thanks,

Geekster,

I do not think so as there is not that much of a demand for them.

If you call Customer Service 1-502-988-8500 and ask for Suzanne she may be able to order you one when they place the next order for Poly Phasers.

When that might be I have no idea.

You could use the units Copper carries up to the 800 MHz. range. However, you should probably order a unit with type N connectors for UHF and above.

Sinker,

Very easy to choose / decide which one you want / need.

Read the Description on each of them.

The (H00-00002 Polyphaser IS-B50LU-CO) will handle:
(Max Power: HF 2kw, VHF 375w, UHF 125w)

The (H00-00004 Polyphaser IS-B50HU-CO) will handle:
(Max Power: HF 3kw, VHF 500w, UHF 250w)

Hope this helps,

Will the Polyphaser unit's help reduce static noise from vertical antenna's through providing grounding?

A Polyphaser will not quiet down a noisy antenna. You still need to ground the antenna to do that.

Think of a Polyphaser as a door slamming on a lightning bolt and a Detour to ground for any lightning trying to enter your house.
