Bearcat 980 W/SSB

The weather reception really isn't very good, like so many others I went in and adjusted the squelch to be as light as possible, it's not a squelch problem it's the sensitivity of the weather receiver. When I got the radio the mic gain was turned all the way down to one, The radio did 3 watt dead key out of the box and really didn't swing much. SSB was about 8 watts peak so get it peaked. Now for the positive things, I really like the menu system of the radio, it's easy to use. The weather alert will make you jump the first time the alert goes off, it does start out quiet and gets louder. The wireless mic is a nice touch, uniden says it will work up to 300 meters (900 feet) away and it really does! The receiver is sensitive but it also picks up noise like most modern day CB radios. The "frequency counter" isn't really a counter, it's just a display like the channel numbers are.

Excellent little side bander! I get great audio reports with the stock mic...CLEAN audio! Once you set up all the parameters to your personal choice it's easy to run. Hooked up to my KL-200P I can get out in the mobile, lots of easy skip! I can see the panel night or day with ease. Talk back works good too, NO feed back problems. For a CB only SSB skip shooter this radio is it. Stays rock solid on frequency too, I can get in my truck in 15 or 100 degree weather and it's ready to go right off the bat, no warm up needed! Not real loud on AM but it DOES work cleanly and I'm not all about LOUD anyway, just nice clean signal. If your into side band and don't care about "extra channels", get this radio, you'll be glad you did!

I've had this cb for about six months, I have to say if you adjust the radio inside you will get a radio that will swing to about 20 watts am and ssb with loud modulation and great receive... Well worth the mony.... let Copper ADJ the radio and you will be very happy with this radio.

love the radio.....Quiet on receive ssb. Am has just enough for low or can get just enough to push the high drive driver love the wireless Mic (optional) good for 100 meters plug in the external speaker and it makes a nice radio for the truck or add a power supply makes a good cb 11 meter base.

So I like this radio and I don't.. I love the SSB on this radio.. Sounds great.. But the Am is very lacking in the power department.. And is really hard to get it set just right. Over all. Good radio tho for what it is. This radio will be good for someone who wants to music barefootbecause if you use it barefoot AM does,come up
