I have a cobra 146 I picked up on ebay that I've been trying to straighten out. When first turned on everything seems fine (rx and tx work). But after a while the tx cuts in and out (needle on the swr meter while reading power goes from showing power to showing 0 and than back when power returns, this is confirmed with another mobile setup). As far as I know the radio is stock but I'm not 100% sure, it doesn't seem to have any switch mods or anything done to it. Radio does this in mobile with a firestick antenna and coax as well as when hooked to home made loop antenna and a spare atv battery (mobile works fine with a cobra 29). I have this issue on am/lsb/usb. |

Sounds like it could be dried out electrolytic capacitors. Changing them would not be a job for the faint of heart. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Ya, I was hoping it wasn't that, guess I'll give replacing them a try and see what happens. (I'd guess they've been replaced once, is there a source to see what spec one's I need or should I just get a kit and have at it?) |
