Talk ham to me, lets hear about it, do you run mostly 2 meter, 6 or 10 meter.
Hand held. what is wour favorite.
Some time soon I may get an 2 meter vertical antenna, or should I look for a vertical 2,10,6,meter and just buy the one antenna. |

Check the reviews on www.eham.net. I was looking into a Diamond 6meter/2meter/70cm Tribander, but it seemed that these are a bit of a compromise on 6 meters. There is very little 6meter FM in my area, so I figured that if I have an antenna of 6m, I would rather it be a horizontally polarized 4 element Yagi so if the band opens up , I could work some DX with it. So I opted for a Workman UVS-300 dual-bander for 2meter and 70cm. It is 89 bucks, and has pretty good gain (8db/11db, or something like that), and it got good reviews. I am using a discone for 6meter until I can get a beam up. Then I have a Top-One for 11m/10m, and a multiband scanner antenna. I'm lucky my wife is cool about antennas! I gave my Imax2000 to my freind who helped me install all the above, otherwise I'd probably have it up a tree somewhere!
I don't have any suggestions really for the lower HF bands, I've heard that the multiband verticals work pretty well. I was thinking about doing a longwire and tuner type thing if I ever get into HF.
If you get a 2 meter and or 70cm antenna, do not skimp on the coax! Loss up there is a real factor in what you get as far as radiated power is concerned. I went with Davis Bury-Flex for the VHF/UHF stuff, and RG-213 for the 10/11 meter stuff. My scanner antenna has RG-6 75 ohm cable, and it works great. |

Highlander good post, very interesting, my Daughter bought me a 2 meter Mag Mobil antenna for my HT Yeasu FT 50 R and Lon sent me a NSA Converter for it for Fathers day, so it really gets out at the lake now.

Good points on the coax Highlander. When I ran my own Communications company (in Australia) most of my coax was LGF-450 or KGF-550 heliax - the lengths that weren't big enough to use commercially. Sure wish I could have brought that with me. |
