Yes a close by station said that they can barely hear me like two blocks away. the meter needle is not working at all. what happened??? and why??? Is this caused by high swr??? |

High SWR can cause the rig to poop out. Do you have a dummy load you can slap on it right quick? Mobile antenna with an extension? Have you been tinkering with it? Chad |

well, if they can hear you at all, and you can hear this radio on your scanner then this means the radio is working up to the driver since this is the 1st modulated stage. and this is -assuming-that you are talking about am mode. if this -is- the case, replacing the finals will solve your problem

As to the cause... While it is true that a very high Standing Wave Ratio will cause radios to go bad this problem should have been detectable prior to the actual radio going south. Just curious, poster do you keep a SWR meter in line at all times and monitor the SWR when you transmit from time to time? May I suggest that you put a SWR meter on line and another radio to make sure that the poster does not also have to make repairs on the antenna and or the coax with its connectors. Be careful when you are doing this--keep the key down to the very shortest possible time. ONE accurate reading should suffice to tell if you have a major problem with the antenna and or the coax. Better yet, poster buy a SWR station from our good board provider and keep this SWR station on line at all times so you can monitor anttna health.
