I didn't know they had an 800 but it has 4 2879 transistors so your 440 will be fine. I would start with a 4 watt dead key and leave the dial a watt off. This should have the amp keying 100-200 watts. If it keys more turn the radio down some more.

Key up again and give it a good AUDIO and see what kind of peak watts (pep) you have. Take your pep number and divide it by four and set your dead key. If it does 800 pep set the dk to 200 watts. Don't use the dial a watt unless you need to. They are notorious for burning out on smaller amps.

I wouldn't expect to see an honest 800 watts from that box. I would say it might do 500-600...depending on your meter. If you haven't already bought the Texas Star you might look into a competition 4 pill like a davemade, x force, or fatboy. You can get one new for around $350 depending on who's name is on it.

They advertise that you can put up to 60 watts in and it will get over 800 out. Seems kinda high but I haven't tried one yet. Here's the power chart they put out on the DX 800.DX 800

Looking on the chart it does not do any more than a 500v
