Hello. I own a 3500 100 watt version and was wondering if it is a pretty decent rig to use as a base. I have it hooked to a silver eagle mike and all i want are some good honest opinions. I dont ever see any posts much about these cool old radios much anymore. |

Never had one but have heard some VERY nice sounding ones on the air. They do tend to drift -slightly- but as a base set up you should have no problem at all. If you are looking for a warmer/less tinney sound, Try a Turner +3 desk mic. |

I think you'll really like the 3500 for a base, thats what I run in the house. My old big boat anchor radios are in the shack. It's my opinion, the 3500 is the best of the export type radios, base or mobile, and I've tried them all. Its very stable on SSB, the clarifier is open from the factory, tx and rx right together. I run mine on about 30 watts keyup on AM, and it talks 70 watts or more on SSB. Some people don't like them because of no channel read out, but thats no problem for most that know the frequencies. Of course all this depends on having one that has not been messed up by some golden screwdriver. |

The one i have almost NEVER drifts on SSB. Talks great on AM and SSB too. Didnt they use class C modulation on AM and class AB-1 on SSB? A tech told me that they did. |
