I have a older GE base/moble that has been hit by lightning. It will light up but the lights are fairly dim..Any suggestions???? |

Lightning? Unless you are willing to spend possibly more than the radio's worth in a major repair. Which may not even be possible, given the fact that some of the parts may be almost impossible to find. Lay your old friend to rest...

After a few more tests i found out that it lights up alot better with the 12v source than the 110v source. But it has no recieve and when i key the mic it pegs the meter on my other base but there is no modulation....Oh well guess ill just bury her in the back yard....It"ll be kinda hard letting go because she was my first..... |

GE had their own version of the "VCO". It was an epoxied "blob" of components that created the loop as well as the Vco. It is most likely gone and there are NONE left anywhere unless you have someone with the same radio and you can remove it.

Can someone tell me where to find the pot to adjust 13.8vdc on this radio??? also how about the pot to adjust 110vac??

well I thought it was hit by lightning but im not positive. It was working fine one night and the next night it wasnt...There was a storm that night but nothing else was hurt. I bought a new base and used the same antenna the GE was on for a long time. I would think that if lightning hit it the antenna would have been bad or at least showed signs of being struck. The model number on it is 3-5869. Im just getting started in repairing radios and i thought id start with this one..I certainly cant make it any worse than it already is.

Buck,
I looked around. I can't find the schematic for the right adjustment. Like you said you can't make it worse, so try this. Somewhere near the transformer for the power supply there should be a a variable that adjusts power to the board. This should be after the transformer and may be mounted on a seperate PCB in that area.

Buck: I don't know if you fix the ge base yet. But it's sounds like you need to get or find someone that has a Sams Photofact book no.cb162 this should answer a bunch of your questons Lightning |
