You can't correctly match them together without doing some modifications to the radio.
Those Cobra 29s of today are usually 3.5 to 4 watts fresh out of the box. I've also (SOMETIMES) seen them (out of box) do less than 50% modulation with the mic-gain wide opened.
If you put that into a 250 watt amplifier, you will end up with a heavy carrier and very little audio to back it up.

i have read that the palomar 250 takes 4 watts input,so are u saying that i still have to modify something, ive cut down to 1.5 watts what else do i have to do to get the most clear un modulated sound?......thank you for your input |

Since you've already turned the power down, I would turn the AMC pot up to bring your modulation to full. It will not over-modulate as long as you do not cut the audio limiter. It will then sound strong and very clean.
I think the pot will be VR-4. Turn it up all the way. If I'm wrong about the number on the pot, I'm sure someone here will correct me. |

i believe your correct on that vr 4 ,so it want hurt my radio to do this, i guess all the way is clockwise |
