If anybody needs the data, I have schematics for all the powered turners and Astatics plus, mike-wiring books(Factory) from both companies. All I need is a fax number to send them to. |

Yes Sir Bruce, I'm in hopes to get this thing up and running one day. It's messing a couple tubes in it and I was lucky enough to stumble across a Sam's Photofact for this radio. So just one piece at a time it ought to be working. |

Stitches, it is a standard 4 pin mike plug, right? I couldn't find the Polycomm Pro in any of my mike books, but did find the Polycomm Senior 23. It wires: 1. Audio (white) 2. Shield (ground) 3. TX (red) 4. RX (black) The Sams book should show if yours is the same. If the T-UG9 is 6 wire, the blue would go with the shield. Yellow N/C. Don't get bit, some of those old tube rigs, like the Brownings and others, have 110 volts ac on the mike plug, don't know about the Polycomms. What tubes are you missing. |

Scrapiron63: Yes the mic. plug is a 4 pin type, I also looked again inside the radio and I only have one tube messing and it's a big one from the looks of the 4 pin socket. It's towards the back of the rig right in front of the black transformer. There is one crystal messing though, there is two racks of crystals, one rack has 14 of them and the other has 9. This rack has the "B" crystal messing and it's the last one in the rack by the #6CW5 tube. The "A" crystal in front of the one that is messing has the letters "JK" stamped on the metal case and "H-17" stamped just under "JK". on the bottom of this crystal is #32. And I wouldn't know what the "B" crystal is supposed to be or if it had one there at all. I've heard about folks getting bit by these things so tell me what would be the safest way to "Discharge" this or any tube type unit in order to work on them? I don't want to be all hunched up over the radio doing the Irish Jigg or thrown across the room cause I did something stupid. |

Stitches, well I found a list of tubes for the polycomm, and there are no 4 pin. I don't think thats a tube missing, it's one of those large metal cans, all tube radios have them, I can't remember what they are called right now, Bruce can tell us. The Sams book should show it. The radio has 23 crystals for TX and 1 for receive. Sounds like you have all 23 transmit, and the "B" slot might be for adding a crystal. The receive crystal may be under the bottom. The sams should have a crystal list also. Your not likely to get bit with that rig, as long as it's unplugged from AC, there may be some small caps under the bottom with a small amount of charge, you can discharge them to ground. Here's the info I found on the polycomm pro. I found some pics also, man it looks like a neat old rig, I don't think i've ever seen one. BTW, I mailed the siltronix power cord yesterday. Scrapiron63: I'll be receiving the Sam's #CB8 in a few days. I'll be able to understand more about this radio then. But until then I've wrote down the info. you sent here. It is kinda neat looking huh? Thanks for mailing out that power cord too! |

Yeah they are great looking rigs, i'll be watching for one now. ha. I believe it said they were built in 1965. Now if all 13 tubes had to be replaced, it would cost a few bucks, the little metal 6DS4 nuvistor tubes are probably the most expensive, but what the heck, its just money, huh. That big round metal can that you have missing is a filter of some kind, I know when the old Brownings or Trams develop a bad hum, you can replace those and take care of the problem. |
