I have a first gen ranger 2995DX. Here is what it does. You turn it on and it comes on slowly (about 5sec) It comes on on freq 24000. You can change the freq to anything you want and it works fine for about 5-10 min! it then sounds a "beep" and changes freq to 24890, Then when you try to get to 27mhz it won't do it. It only allows you to get 24 and 28mhz. If you turn it off for about ten min you can turn it back on and it repeats the same thing.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Radioidude, I am no expert but, I have had most of the RCI radio's since they had came out. Being that is a first generation I would say that you might have a power supply problem. This is the same type power supply that is in the General Jackson radio and these radio's share the same problem when tuned to do the max of power output the radio can do. If I am correct the only solution is either have it repaired or get an external power supply for the radio. Of course if you get an external power supply it will have to be re-wired to that power supply. I have had many friend's that had both these radio's and had the same problem. The new RCI 2995 dx and the New General Jackson have a better and improved power supply that had taken care of the problem. Perhaps one of the TECH'S here will have a better answer than I. I hope this will help you solve your problem.

Sounds like the lithium memory battery is dead. Replace it and all should be well again.
