Ok here's is my question? I came across this wile surfing the net. On how to jump the frequency expansion module. For the new Ranger's, To cover the frequencys from 18 to 36 MHZ. I would not think a ranger is goint to go 18-36... but even if it did above 29.7 who you going to talk too? Ive seen the 21 mhz mods and they realy dont work well if they did i still have my 2950dx ..... if you need that much coverage buy a dx-70th |

Alot of radios can recieve a wider range than they can tx,go with bruces suggestion it makes more sense and is probably cheaper in the long run.Bigbob |

I dont know about those 2950 but my ar3300 works on 15m and 12m I start getting recieve and TX about 14mhz but really weak on the transmit side. |

Not to brag, but I am the one who came across the key-pad trick, years ago, to use the split function, to go deeper out of band. The functional limmits (TX and RX on freq) of the RCI-DX models is about 10MHz. This means about 20.000MHz to 30.000MHz depending on how you adjust the VCO. The radio will display and RECEIVE down to 18.625MHz and up to 36.1049MHz. The trick is a flaw in the CPU's firmware, where the programmed split frequency is subtracted from or added to a frequency of a channel in CB mode. For example, if you program 6.965 into the split memory and set it for "-split", go into CB channel mode and dial to channel 1 (26.965MHz), key the mic, the radio buzzes because the split is "on" in CB mode (it shouldn't be, right?). You then press the MAN button and the math is done...it displays 20.000MHz! If you press the split button to get out of the split mode, you can then transmit. You can use a calculator to figure the freq to program into the split to go anywhere! You can use the "+split" setting and CB channel 40 to go UP! The radio's secret function is limmited by what the split memory will allow as its minimum and maximum programmable frequencies. I posted this mod all over like at Panther, Defpom's, ModsDK, Copper's, and others...Enjoy! |
