You are best off using it with the stock microphone.

Yes, a standard 4 pin cobra/uniden mic will work BUT as Chad suggested the Best mic to use is the Factory Stock Microphone that was designed to work with the Mini Magnum to allow MAXIMUM POWER OUTPUT.
With ANY microphone other than the Stock Factory Mini Magnum Microphone you will not See Maximum Power Ouput with the Newer the Mini Magnum Radio's.
