Hi all, I'm trying to UN-Do a mod on this radio. I have replaced R-99, and the rest of the mod lists: L6, L7, L14, and VR7. I have located L-6 and VR7 but don't know what they do as related to this mod, can anyone fill me in?? Also I have looked and cannot find L7 and L14. Thanks for reading. sb106. |

L6, L7, and L14 are the TX power output tuning coils. they should be tuned using a non metallic screwdriver (making one out of wood is not too hard, juse be very careful not to force anything.) if it wont move easily, chances are the last guy didnt move it either. check closely to see if the ferrite core is cracked. if so, it needs to be replaced, which will be tough unless you have some junk radios to steal from.(best to use another rad shak radio if possible) they should be tuned for max. PEP wattage, meaning peak modulated wattage. do not tune them using only a deadkey. you will have no room for modulation. say, "ahhhh" into the mic while tuning for max, going very slowly. VR7 is the modulation limiter, and might be right next to the big transformer inside the radio. check under the wiring harnesses. this is usually turned all the way up, but if you are turning it down; just turn it all the way down, then back up till you get full modulation, and stop there. im betting that VR7 is very close to R99. matt |

Thanks for the info Matt. I assumed that VR7 was the limiter as it WAS right next to R-99. I think I am on track now. Thanks again. scott aka sandbagger106 |

Lon, if I put this in the wrong spot put it where is belongs please Does anyone have or know where I can get online a schematic for a TRC-434 base?...if not that one, the TRC-492 is as far as I can tell almost identical to it...I've searched every mod site and forum I can find, can't even find a sam's photofact for it...any help would help me out a lot.
