I changed my mind and ordered a KLV500 instead of the 400. Is there any particulars I should consider as far as the settings for output and watts? Thanks DaveC |

dave,I had a klv-500 mobil amp for about a year or so. it's a good unit but gets hot fast so what I did was that I put a 4 inch fan on top of it with some two sided tape. Then I put a resistor in line with a small toggel switch to slow it down were it was quiet and it stayed nice and cool even when I got long winded with out a break. One more thing I would sugest is that you keep your dead key low and dont go for the monster swing with this box ( my unit always sounded tight on am and ssb when I did ) keep that audio kleen and you will get good reports back on it. good luck I talked dx all over with mine.

Good choice the KLV500, I have used the KLV 400 for a couple years and they are clean sounding and reliable. The KLV500 gets 300 watts AM & 600 watts ssb.
I have a couple KLV400's they put out what is listed about 100 watts on AM and 100 watts on SSB.
One Dollar a watt for the KLV400 on AM & SSB, or .33 cents a watt for the KLV500 on AM or .15 cents a watt on SSB.
Humm which to get?

Is there any modifications that can be made to a KLV-550. If so, will it cause any long term damage or isn't it worth modifing and should I just leave it alone? I'm only curious to know. Dave c |

It should be ready when you get it to plug in and hook coax up and start talking.
Keep Dead Key around 3 or 4 watts to start, DO NOT OVER DRIVE it.
