I have two RCI 2950's (old style) both of these radios used to swing up to about 12-15 watts PEP with rf power all the way down which is about a 1 watt carrier. Now they only swing up to about 2 watts with mic gain wide open. When I turn the power up I still get the 10 watt dead key in the am mode but it swings backwards. I have tried adjusting the AMC VR with no improvement. Its just kind of strange that both of these radios do the same thing. Both radios work great on SSB with 20-25 watts out. My other radios seem to work fine on same antenna and watt meter. Thanks for any advice.

Sounds like someone with a "golden screwdriver" didn't follow the alignment procedure from RCI and messed them up.

You don't tune an RCI 2950 for "maximum power". Especially not the PA bias adjustments.

I think your power regulator might be bad. It is located when you face the radio on the right side toward the back. I agree with Dale and Tech 833. Also it is hard to tell what other damage could have been done by the golden screwdriver. Like a car, you run them wide open and never let up, something has to give

If the mic board went bad, it may have sent voltage down the audio line to the radio and damaged the radio's mic audio preamp.

The 2950 doesn't need a "power mic" to work well.
