I need help with this install. I want to install a new KL-501 amp. How do I choose my wire size? By the 300 AM watts or 600 PEP Watts. And what size should I use? Thanks for your help.

How do I choose my wire size?-you really need to know the potential current draw. go by the most amount of draw, no matter how short of a time period, in this case, 600 watts. you must also take length into consideration.

big_m, if you have to ask that question, make sure you are aware of EVERYTHING else before you start the install!

1. as harve says, 6 ga will be OK for less then 15' or so, otherwise go with 4 ga.
2. will antenna handle power?
3. is antenna tuned correctly?
4. will battery, alternator, charge wire handle the draw?
5. are electrical grounds sufficient?
6. is radio matched to amp?
7. is coax 'good enough'?
