I know that the realistic Trc-490 and old cobra 142 were the same uniden main board with a few added features, But what model name was that board sold as under the uniden/president label??

The boards were sold under the Uniden name since they were built by Uniden. If you are refering to a specific board number, I can't help you there. Back then, no one cared, including me.

But this I do know. Back in the 70's, Uniden was supplying President, Cobra, RadioShack and many others with their PC boards. Same radios, just different names.

Sometime during the mid to late 70s, Uniden bought the President line of radios. From then on they became known as Uniden-Washington, Uniden-Madison, Uniden-Grant, etc, etc, etc.

Many of todays young CBers do not know of the early Uniden-board radios with the famed 858-PLL chip. Before the FCC outlawed that chip, those SSB 858 chipped radios were easily converted to 200+ frequencies.

Todays Cobras and Presidents can't hold a candle to the great ones of the 70's. That's one of the reasons why the 10 Meter radios of today are so popular. They give you "many" frequencies to choose from. The CBs of today do not do that.

I have a TRC 490. Didn't know that Uniden made the boards for them. THNX. Now how do I get in touch with Uniden? I need to get the SSB back on freq. and need crystals. Maybe they have them. Tony, N5JVA

Teham,
I don't really think you need a crystal, I think all you need is a good tune up of the PLL circuit, done by a good technician. Could also be that the clarifier needs to be opened up to put the receive and transmit on the same frequency, also as others have said the TRC-490 is the same radio as a few others, to mention the Cobra 142GTL, Teaberry Stalker XV, Uniden Washington, Plus a few sideband mobiles are the same radio. Plus the PLL circuit only uses one control crystal. If your AM is on frequency, the sideband is your alignment problem.
