I have an old D-104 with a 4 wire cord on it(red, white, black & shield). I would like to hook it up to my Galaxy DX 93T but have heard that there is an impedence differance between the radio and the mic. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem or have I been misinformed? I've been using the DX 93T as a base unit for now. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Well I finally got my D104 hooked up to my 93t but I don't get as much swing as I get on the stock mike. If I try to turn the d104 up I get squeal, turn it down then I don't get swing. I've tried changing the battery, put 2 different new ones in, but didn't help.

Using radio as a base right now.

Any ideas? Grounding maybe?

Thanks cactusjack/CEF 124

How many "swing" watts are you taking about?

"If" the 93T has a mic gain, can you turn it down and turn up the D104 with any differing results (including squeal)?

Where are both set at?

Just thinking out loud here

Put a .01 micro-farad disc-cap across the audio and shield at the solder lugs and put a 470 ohm resistor in series with the audio line this should take care of the squeal and give you a lot more adjustment room,no more than 2 disc caps as more will roll off much of the high frequency portions of your voice and make it very bassy.Just a thought try .001 disc-caps first, might work and be less bassy.

Alsworld,

well the 93t has a mic gain knob on it but no matter where I turn it I still get squeal. with the d104 hooked up I key up and turn the d104 up until the mod meter starts to rise then I back it down till the mod meter comes back down then back off a hair more. after this I talk into the mic in my normal voice. with my stock mike I get 100+ % modulation on the radios meter, on the d104 I have to talk quite a bit louder or whistle to get the same modulation . If I turn the mic gain up on either the radio or the d104 it starts to squeal again. Thanks for the come back.

Bigbob,

Thanks for the info I'll give it a try.

Do you have the talkback feature of the radio turned off?

Tech671,

Yea the talk back is off. I'm just going off the meter in the radio. When I see it start to rise I just assume it's squeal.

Thanks, Cactusjack

Does that D104 work normally on a diff radio? (Not in the past, but now).

well I don't have a different radio right now or I would try that. I did have it on a comanche warrior, in the past, and don't remember having this problem. It would squeal on the warrior but I could turn it down until the squeal went away and still get good modulation.

This d104 has been around the block a time or two. I took the bottom off of it and whoever soldered the mic cable on did a really bad job. I might need to replace the mic cable, too. I've also noticed that if you tap the bottom of the d104 it will do wierd things like the volume will go up or down. maybe the volume pot is bad, I don't know.

Any feedback on this problem would be appreciated.

Sounds like it might be time to trade that old D104 in for a fresh model ;)
