My a99 has finally given up the ghost after ten years of service. I've read through many of the posts but I'm still wondering which antenna to replace the 99 with. Do to mounting I could get the Imax at a maximum of 15ft at the feed point.That would put the top of it at 38 ft. If I put up the top one, the max antenna height I could get is 26 ft. Also I won't be able to use the gpk for the Imax. Thanks for the help. |

I am absolutely sold on the COPPER ($70) IMAX 2000 vertical antenna with or without the groundplane kit. I have been using a 4 element Quad up at 50+ ft and wanted another antenna in the shop/garage to connect with the 2nd radio. It is very light. Very solid and strong. I put it up by myself with the tip sitting at 60 ft but in your case (lower) I would still go for the IMAX 2000. I added a $20 COPPER TVI filter and was talking to Hawaii in a matter of minutes! California Dreaming! 
Look up the review and comparison done by one of the tech's here on the forum. It gives a chart to compare them.

Both are great antennas. I found the top one to work great close to the ground. But I must confess if I was buying groundplanes all over again I would go with the longer Imax 2000. Metal groundplanes can translate into trouble. Either antenna would outperform your A-99.--Especially now, ha! Do read the reviews done by the Tech "choosing an antenna."

Thanks for the replies, due to the limited mounting height I'm seriously considering the top one. A friend loned me a big stick for now. It's one of the smaller upsable models. I've lost some performance with the big stick compared to the a99, maybe an s unit on transmit and a half an s on receive. |

Just to let everyone know I am running a Imax 2000 for a ground plane and the bottom of mine is at 50ft while the tip is at 74ft. I have great recieve and transmit. I can pretty well talk just about as far on my Imax as I can my beam, (ya know literly speaking LOL) but they are great.. |
