I have a new mobile setup, and I am seeing something that I don't understand how it is possible.

I am running a 2950DX, dead keying 2 watts and swinging 30 on AM.

Along side I am running a Palomar Lizard 250HD (2x SD1446).

The SD1446 pills are rated for 70 watts each - so the most I should be seeing is around 140 watts on AM.

What I question is what I have confirmed on 2 different DOSY meters (one a few years old, the other only a few weeks old) - on AM on the High setting I am dead keying 25 watts and swinging 250 PEP.

How is the 250 watts possible? I mean, I am not complaining, but every other 2 pill I have ever run has maxed out at 140-150 watts on the AM side.

Can someone explain? I feel a little ignorant asking why I am getting so much wattage, but it just doesn't add up!

if you look at the actual data sheet you will see that the 1446 is capable of slightly over 100w at 12.5vdc so at 13.8vdc it will do more than that. the actual -max- power that you will get at 27mhz for a set of 1446's is around 225w. i have seen some amps show close to 300w, but they were dirty amps to begin with.

unless the antenna you are testing this amp on is a pure 50ohms(no antenna in existence) then this most likely is adding to your higher readings (along with harmonics).
