Okay,my 2990 has just started to act up.When i key down on it for about a minute(if that long) the display light's flicker from bright to dim.The output of the unit cut's back in half and the output has went down below 2 watt's with no swing at all.I checked the voltage's going to the amp and main board, nothing dropping there.I can push down in the middle of the main board and it work's okay.Any suggestion's on where to start trouble shooting this?Could be a cold solder joint or bad connection? Thank's in advance! |

cracked solder joint...check IC5..or IC16. although those normally mess up in the 2950 in a mobile situation...thats what it sounds like |

Just get a good soldering Iron, grab a cup of joe and hit all the solder joints on the board. A wax pencil helps if you have to get up, mark where you've been, often times you can tell by the solder but it never hurts. I usually start in a corner or side and work my way in one direction. It looks rough but you will be suprised at how fast it will go. I find it relaxing... but then again..... I'm a weirdo. Chad |

Well,i didnt find a problem around IC5 or IC16,but i resoldered the connection's there anyway.I did find that the 7808 regulator feeding IC4 7805 was putting out almost 11volt's.So i changed it.Back to 8volt's even now.Now i have encountered another problem, the radio will not key up at all.I went back over everything i resoldered and checked them twice.Nothing touching where it shouldnt be.When it rain's it pour's Any idea's on the keying problem? Thank's in advance! |

Found the problem. One of the big power transistor's on the back of the radio.Replaced it and a 7805 regulator now it's back to normal.Power transistor finally took a dump and shorted.Radio it working excellent again Thank's for the input! |
