what else do I need for my install.
I've got the pole, guy wire, ground wire, coax, poly phaser, ground rods, tvi filter, 10/2 with ground wire, and associated hardware if I run a 20 amp 115vac line, whole house surge protector, various 259 connectors, insulators, eye bolts, meters, Standoffs for the coax and ground wire,

What else might I need whether it's for safety or a just nice to have item?

Well that's the problem, hopefully Starface and my son will be here at the same time and we/they can get the antenna up.I can do the rest once that antenna is up. That antenna is just holding me up. Chances are though after Starface goes fishing out in the gulf all day he probably won't want to see any antenna.

wildrat, if you do a search for a thread titled, "top one at 44' to the tip"
you will find some advice on antenna installation. the antenna is a top one, but the installation advice applies to all antennas.

make sure you get some penetrox, or noalox, or at least some "ox-guard" from lowes. use this goop on ALL mating metal surfaces, including the PL-259 connector. if possible, run short ground straps between mast sections to give a better ground.

always tighten the PL-259 a bit past hand tight using a pair of pliers, so you wont worry about it later.

...and dont hurry!
good luck, be safe,
matt

Starface, Michael(my son) called last night said he would be over Sunday morning, not the best day, but I am going to get him while I can. Kid I have all kind of stuff around here for this antenna. I even went and got some large shrink to go over the joints in the antenna, and I put two coats of automotive clear coat on the thing.

Oh Well lets see what happens.

I don't think so, after the antenna is up I still have to run coax, grounds, polyphaser, surge protection, arrange equip, wait on the mail for some other parts, maybe I will be ready the next Sunday. I have to pace myself or I can't do anything physical for a week or more, and I really don'tlike the pain, but we will get the antenna up!

Wildrat, if my wife wasn't going in for surgery today I would head over to Scarface's and then we could both head over to your and get you set up or pretty close to it.

After I got my antenna up (the first time) I checked the SWR etc with the radio on my back porch and the coax laid out on the ground. You could get away with something similar during the CEF NET to try it out if the weather looks clear.

Wish you the best of luck and will call for you just in-case you have it up and working.

Good luck guys, wish I could be there to help - maybe next time.

Thanks Sinker,
I understand about surgery! I am the type that visualizes things. I have a picture in my head of what I want the new station to look like. I also see things black/white, left/right etc. so I guess what I am saying is I won't turn the radio on until everything is ready to go, but when I do turn it on the job will be complete. Now I have been moderating this a bit in my older age which confuses the children a bit since sometimes I am more child like than they. So perhaps I may be persuaded to hook a radio up, I do have my Cobra 2010 I could hook up temporarily on the back porch. If I don't get some connectors on the coax though I won't be hooking anything up. So anyway enough of this.

Bruce if you want to you can show up over here to if you don't mind being around us CB hoodlums!

Oh Well the antenna going up on Sunday has been nixed for now. I found fifty feet of tower plus the top. The fella is bringing it by tomorrow afternoon. I will have to get a bunch of bolts & nuts to put the thing together. So another delay but a good one I hope.

Yes, But just think Sinker by the time I'm ready to put the tower up you'll have your chance to meet a real live 6'2" 300lb. RAT, plus your wife should be running marathons by then. Thanks again Starface for being ready to go, but I'll be ready to go up with the tower soon I hope.

Well, you won't beleive this but the tower is not up yet. I am beginning to wonder if I will get it up. I am making progress though. I am working on the ground buss for the equipment. I got a nice ground buss, and a ground buss lug from Lowes today. It has 20-24 circuits on it. The ground lug mounts right to it,and it's big enough for the 4/0 welding wire I'm going to use to go out the wall to the ground rod. I'm just waiting on a question to be answered on the polyphaser and I will be ready to mount it to my equipment bookcase.

See Ya'll Later,

Wildrat

Oh Yea, Starface, Sinker, Bruce told me about a hamfest they are having this weekend at the Bradenton Convention Center. It's easy to find, you go down I-75 to the exit where the outlet stores are, head west and the center will be on the left. Bruce gave me the website url, I'll go get it. Hang on............ www.tampabayhamfest.org

I'm going with the wife over there on Saturday riding the bikes.I guess I won't be getting to much, at least that's what my dear sweet wife thinks. I can get a lot of stuff in my saddle bags.
