Smooth and CLEAN modulation. Had one in the shack for about a week. Belongs to CEF706 a few miles away. He's a big Courier fan. They have a nice mellow audio.
Nothing like old school :-)
Also has a small pile of Courier 40D ssb units.

Hank

I've got a couple of Courier Centurion 40Ds myself. Nice radios. I don't know if all Couriers used Uniden boards, but the Centurion 40Ds do. It's a Uniden dual conversion upd858 SSB chassis. Probably the second best SSB chassis that Uniden ever made, and some say it is the best. I like the Uniden MB8719 dual conversion SSB chassis better because I think it's receiver is slightly better and it uses only one mixing crystal rather than a crystal for each mode, so it's easier to align.

I bought my first Centurion 40D from an amateur radio operator and it is pristine. It still has the sticker on it bragging about the 4 watt carrier and 12 watts SSB PEP.

I have a Pace 1000B in nearly perfect condition. Largest meter I've ever seen in a base CB! I never used it on the air because I wanted it for SSB and never got around to modifying it to cover 36-40. I even bought a Super Expo kit for that purpose, but I don't own an oscilloscope with a high enough frequency to do the alignment.

I have a gladiator pll 40 and it has 20+ watts on sideband.
I prefer the 8719 too but the gladiator is undefeated on SSB, bar none.

My main radio that I use all the time is a Courier Centurion. Full channel mod, and the clarifier unlocked (see pic in Members Picture section). If youv'e heard me or made contact with me when I'm on the base, thats what I'm using. Wouldn't trade it or get rid of it for nothing, cuz then I'd just have to get something else and why fix something if it ain't broke.
