Lots of good ones. If you have a radio without echoe, the superstar DM-452 is great. I like the D-104 very much too. Nothing wrong with Turner. I guess the answer depends on your radio.

D-104 Silver Eagle Desk Mic, nice sound that makes contacts when others aren't heard.

For most applications. It didn't measure up on the Magnum 257, for example.

For mobile the Astatic 575 by far. For base I like the echomax 2000. I have found it sounds as good if not a little better then the D-104 and you have a little echo to play with.

Really depends on the radio, what type of microphone you like, if you are going to operate mostly AM or mostly sideband. I can mention several very good microphones, starting with the Astatic Silver Eagle, to the top end Turners and Shure microphones. Also the amount of money you can spend is a big fact. The real good top end microphones can get pricey. I for one run sideband most of the time and have found the Turner Plus Three works very well, as it is a speach compression microphone, although I have several other types of microphones.

Ya know I always liked Astatic hand mike 636 but after using my new Wilson mic for a bit its Wilson for my mobile hands down. My mobile sounds like a base station. Now for a desk mic I must say D 104 but I love the Realistic desk mics that work so ghreat on Navohos. I never owned one but the echo max is amazing.

Solid State: Turner Plus Three, Shure 526t, D104-M6 Minuteman II

The Astatic corp. states that they are coming out with a new line of base station microphones, but I got the impression that this new line was to be imports of which I wouldn't be interested. I'm an oldtimer from the old school of thought. I like the D-104s, Turners and Shure microphones, the old standard TUG-8 D-104 was always the best sound on AM, The Astatic 10-DA head on any Astatic stand works great on sideband, as well as the Turners and Shure microphones. My collection sports all these microphones to include the Silver Eagle.

Silver K Eagle, definitely the most audio out of all my mics. My Echomax has super clean audio, but not NEAR the punch of the Silver K Eagle...

Deptuydog: I have to be honest, I have tried several different mics and they didn't come up to the stock mic, which us a power mic, by the way. (internal control).

I tried a D-104 Handheld, a D-104 Night Eagle, a Sure Desk Mic, Turner +3, a 452 Echo, and a Eagle Desk Mic.

I am using that little stock mic.

Depends on the radio. In my experience i have found that Magnum prefer their own mics. Icom the same. Probably more so.... if it ain't Icom to Icom your radio won't take to it. Very temperamental.

I have a Turner Plus 3 on my Magnum S9 Base, another Turner Plus 3 on my Siltronix 1011D, a Turner Plus 3B on my Cobra 2000, and a Turner RK76 on my Magnum S9 in the truck.

I guess you could say I like the Turner mics.

I have tested a lot of different mics, both base and mobile and the Astatic 575 and the Turner Telex rk56 are the best I've found. I really like the rk56 for the super clear voice reproduction.
The Turner +3 is a good mic but it can be easily overmodulated. The choices I've made for mics are based on the kind of sound I like to have which is the closest to natural voice the better.
