OK, now talk about a dedicated CBer. I go to the ebach sometimes to go fishing. You know, right off the shore there. While the poles are in the water waiting to catch a fish, I get bored. I figured, hey, since I am already carrying long fishing poles, what's another long item in the mix.

I have a maxon walkie talkie that has a removeable antenna (BNC jack). this is good, because I can attach a wire to it that can then in turn go to an antenna. Any thoughts?

I was thinking of simply taking my predator antenna with me since it has a quick release and simply putting it on a simple mount. Problem is that there is sand at the beach, so there is nothing to keep it standing straight up. Also, no ground plane.

I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks.

Get your self on of the short fiberglass antennas made for fiberglass boats. They arent very expensive and should work pretty well just clamped to a pipe sunk in the sand. http://www.copperelectronics.com/cart/product_info.php?cPath=32_33&products_id=1440

ok...You have struck my chord.
Portable Ops!!!

Heres what you need.
1. Short Tripod (Mic stand/slide show screen*nix the screen* you get the idea)
I like the mic stand, slightly stronger and the ability to guy if necessary.
This is your antenna support.

2. Antenna...Why not use your imax, you already take it with you right?. If not get a A99. No luck there?.,...Trick stick man, you got it a "hamstick" dipole so to speak.
Two mobile whips back to back on a mount, center conductor to one, sheild to other.
(I like the a99/imax better...saltwater ground plane will more than make up for the lack of height...i use a a99 at 4 ft up at the beach on 10 meters with FANTASTIC results.)

3. Radio. Handi-Talkie...Nah! Deepcycle battery and mobile rig, time teasted and proven man! (take along a sturdy wooden tv tray for an op station.)

4. Action. Fishing!...yeah right, you'll be so busy with contacts you wont even notice that big lunker made off with the whole rod and reel.

5. Potential. Much...Get used to it with cb, once you set up 20meters on the beach, you'll never operate from home again.

Any questions, let me know in the usuall fashion...my call at yahoo . com
