I have a President George radio that a wire came loose inside of. Long story - but the bottom line is that I can't find where it was originally soldered to!

Now - it's a gray wire about 1/4 of the way up from the face on the right side of the photo. I've labeled it here in the next photo.

And here's a closeup of the wire where it's still connected:

Can anyone tell me where this wire is supposed to be connected?

The radio still receives fine, but when I talk it sounds like I have a mouth full of crackers! It worked perfectly fine before this happened - and nothing has been adjusted inside.

Thanks so much in advance!

Road Warrior,

Thanks, but , I'm not strong enough at reading schematics to get very far with that...

NOBODY else has this radio????

Did you buy this radio used? If so the wire might belong to something someone added in the past and a schematic won't help much anyway.
If you look close the connected end is a little sloppy soldered to that jumper. Is that bare wire jumper cut in two or is the grey wire just spliced into the jumper?
It was probably there to turn something off and on.
Much easier to look on the foil side and see if you can find where the gray wire was connected. Again check to make sure whatever componets the grey wire was spliced into are there and are connected by the bare wire jumper how they are supposed to be. Maybe it was a mod to open and close the limiter. With the sound of your audio problem you might have a disabled limiter.
KEEP IT REAL!

Still looking for help on this. Has anyone seen a radio with this type of mod on it?

Yes, I got it used... Last time I was in the radio there was nothing loose - after it started sounding bad on transmit I opened it and found that wire loose.

Look VERY closely at the board and go over it very slowly inch by inch you should be able to see small pieces of frayed wire where the grey wire will have been attached possibly the small vertical board near the front .
