I have a 2950dx that is my favorite radio so far however it only has bars to indicate the receive signal strength. Does anyone know what the bars mean? Is one bar a S-unit? I hate when I get asked how many S-units or db I'm receiving someone and have to tell them three bars swinging to four.
:-)
Also wondering what is the max watts these radios can put out reliably.

There are 6 bars on mine and I read mine as :
1-bar=1
2-bars=3
3-bars=5
4-bars=7
5-bars=9
6-bars=+20
1-3-5-7-9-+20
There maybe more than 6 bars but I have never seen anyone light up more than 6.
Three bars swinging four = S5 swinging S7.Close enough for goverment work.
Counting bars should not be practiced while operating a vehicle as it could be dangerous, but works pretty good for base station operation.
For long radio life I would say a 8 watt deadkey with 16 watt swing is best and 25 watts single sideband.
The above is my opinion and not everyones I am sure.
