Does anyone make anything that will allow you to use your cb antenna for your car stereo as well?

There used to be adaptors available for this purpose which was like a splitter box with tuning slugs and some other circuitry in it , I am sure these must still be out there somewhere as they are appearing on a certain auction site here in the UK and possibly with a phone call to COPPER ELECTRONICS you might find what you are looking for .

There is one for sale here too Jim. Apparently it's a car radio antenna that has UHF cb capabilities as well. Might be worth a look for you hams that use 23cm? Like all these weird and wonderful things it's not real cheap....lol. Haven't seen anything like that to cover 27 mhz though.

Ok so I need to look for "splitters" then?

I'd recommend against them - unless you build you own. Most commercial ones that I have had access to seemed to lossy to work properly.

Firstly at CB frequencies a car radio antenna is too short unless it has a fairly large lossy loading coil. Secondly there will also be a loss involved with the diplexor (aka splitter) and most commercial ones are made to a price not a quality - i.e the cheaper the diplexor the more loss it is liable to have.

the only way to do this, and still maintain some semblance of good CB performance, is with an antenna switch box.

those "splitters", and combo AM/FM/CB antennas and adapters are all junk.
the very idea makes them junk.

you need to buy an antenna switch.
then hook one coax cable from the CB antenna to the common connector of the switch, run one coax to the CB radio, and one coax with a motorola antenna adapter on the end to the stereo.

then you just flip the switch to the CB position when you want to use the CB.

no, you will not be able to use the antenna for both radios at the same time.

you can either do that, or buy a 3 foot peice of coax with the motorola plug on one end, and separate the shield from the center conductor to make a sort of "dipole".
run these wires up under the dash, and it should work pretty good.

if you live in the middle of nowhere, then you would be better off with the first idea.
hope this helps,
matt
anyone wanting a "clean signal", just look to the left and build one of these!!!
