Can anyone tell me a good inexpensive way to power my connex 4300-300 if I want to use it as a base. I have a pyramid ps-21k but It does'nt give it enough juice. Can I use a battery connected to a charger? Any feedback is helpful. Thanks all!

you really need a good, quality 50 amp power supply to power that connex radio. it has 4-2sd1446's that probably draw 8-10 amps each.

a battery & charger WILL work. BUT there is a BIG ISSUE of safety that needs to be thought about FIRST. you MUST use a COMPLETELY sealed battery, such as an OPTIMA or OPTIMA-type. you need to be sure the 'jumper' cables don't pop off the battery-solid connection would be best, you need a charger with multiple settings-trickle, 10-30-50 amp, whatever it takes to keep the radio delivering full power at all times. a long keydown with the charger delivering 10 amps of charge power will show a voltage drop at the battery and loss of output power and poor AM audio. if it was a sideband radio-FORGET it!

so unless you have a commercial(garage-type) charger & an optima or 2 laying around, $300 for a 60 amp power supply ain't such a bad thing.
