would like to mount cb antenna on 2005 ford focus, but there is not enough clearance between trunk lid and rear window. same holds true for the sides, tried to install k-40 and the metal clamping area will strike the glass or 1/4 panel.
don't want to use magnetic or drill holes, any ideas? |

Why not try mounting antenna on the hood? I've done it and it works. |

buy a different car??
if all else fails try using a glass mount antenna, but to be honest a roof mounted antenna will always work better. Bite the bullet drill a hole and mount it properly.

ok, going to drill a hole and mount a nmo type.
hate to do it but car is mint,only 7k miles on it. |

I mounted a Comet RS-730(type) on my GMC Yukon on the back lift gate and I have a co-worker who is a ham operator that has a Diamond antenna and mount on his Ford Focus that is mounted on his door frame above the rear passenger window.
Anyway just another option if you still don't want to drill a hole in your car.

NOOOOO.....don't drill into a brand new car. Buy a boot mount and use it as a bonnet mount. Once it has 100,000 on it then drill to your hearts content.....think re-sale value.

Is the trunk lid metal or fiberglass?
Some of the later Ford cars have fiberglass trunk lids and are not suitable to mount antennas on.
You might consider a Wilson Little Wil Magnet Mount which is light and very easy on a paint finish.
Keep a little wax on the vehicle surface under the cable where it crosses the vehicle and wipe under the magnet to remove dirt once in a while.
If you have a fiberglass trunk lid I would suggest mounting it on the vehicle roof in the sturdyest place.
I use this setup on my wife`s 04 Ford Taurus on trips of about 900 miles round trip and I have not seen a scratch or mark on the vehicle.
Performance wise the Wilson Little Wil will come very close to the K-40.
Max power for the Little Wil is about 300 Watts I believe as advertised.
